Want to Ask Family Guy’s Creator a Question? Turn to Social Media.

Want to ask Seth McFarlane, Family Guy’s creator, about what’s going to happen to Stewie this season or why he decided to create his The Cleveland Show spinoff? Now’s your chance, thanks to social media.

In an interesting use of social media, actor Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men, The Wedding Planner, The Usual Suspects) is conducting a rare interview of Seth MacFarlane on his Ustreamustream chat show. And it’s an interactive interview, as Kevin will be getting his interview questions from anyone who tweets out the #kpcs hashtag.

Six Ways to Save Money in Enterprise Content Management

Enterprise content management (ECM) is big business these days. There are scads of companies turning a tidy profit promising to do a competent job of managing every conceivable type of content, from records bound by regulation to Web content and freewheeling collaborative work. What there isn’t as much of is sound advice from experienced professionals on how to save money when it comes to ECM.

At a time when IT budgets are tight and few can afford to spend anything they don’t have to, Gartner’s research vice president Tony Bell is offering some interesting thoughts on best practices for reducing costs. Here’s our assessment of his tactics for increasing efficiency when it comes to ECM.

  • Rubberized handle, suitable for left or right-handed use
  • 10″ L x 2 1/4″ W, dishwasher safe

    Ravi Instant Wine Chiller

The Ravi works by cooling wine at the very time it’s served. Convenient for those moments when you need to cool wine quickly, like when company suddenly drops in and you don’t have a bottle pre-chilled.

Just place the Ravi in the freezer, then attach to your bottle as needed. The cooling of the wine takes place as the liquid passes through the frozen stainless steel tube within the device, cooling your wine in seconds. The Ravi’s internal valve lets you control the flow of the wine so users can regulate the amount of time (and temperature) at which the wine is chilled, while maintaining the wine’s taste and characteristics.

Will Someone Please Tell Me Exactly What a Personal Computer Can Do?

I don’t know what I like more about this 1981 4-page ad for the Apple III: The naive list of 100 things a computer can do, or the fact that precognitive designers created Mac OS X’s aqua look back then.

Most probably, the thing I like more is that the copy reads a lot like modern Apple ads. [Mac Mothership]

Ask a Pro: How to Shoot (and Not Get Shot) In a War Zone

Ever wonder how war photographers survive out there? We’ve enlisted Teru Kuwayama—a photographer who has covered conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other hotspots for Time, Newsweek and Outside—to explain the perils of working in a war zone.

Among military planners, there’s an aphorism that states: “Amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics.”

The daily mechanics of photographing in a “war zone” don’t have much to do with photography—mostly it’s about getting from point A to point B without getting your head cut off, then finding a signal and an outlet.

NFL to let Cowboys giant HD scoreboard stay as-is, at least for 2009

The NFL has ruled on the Dallas Cowboys punt blocking super-sized videoboard deciding to leave it where it is, 90 feet above the playing field, at least for this season. That’s no surprise to us, on the last EHD Podcast we figured no one would be able to tell Jerry Jones there’s a problem with his billion dollar baby, obstructed view seating and all. So far there’s just the one strike in the books, but if it happens again, it is a dead ball and the clock and down will both be reset. Haven’t seen the punt heard round the world yet? Check after the break for a clip of the kick that caused all the commotion, though we’re still waiting for a ruling on whether or not Gears of War tournaments on the thing are still legal.

US Open Warns Tennis Stars About Tweeting

Tennis’ twittering heavy hitters like Serena Williams and Andy Roddick better watch what they tweet. The 2009 US Open starts Monday and tennis authorities — ie. the Tennis Integrity Unit — are doing everything in their power to discourage athletes from turning to TwitterTwitter to reveal inappropriate information.

Newsnews is trickling out of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center that cautionary signs now litter locker rooms and players’ lounges, while emails to all players with similar strict messages have been sent out. On top of forbidding tweeting on the court during matches, players, coaches, agents, and family members are being instructed to keep their off-court Twittering to an absolute minimum.

Zune HD pamphlet discloses HD movies coming to Zune marketplace

With TV shows, music video, and video podcasts already proliferating the Zune marketplace, it was really only a matter of time before Microsoft dipped its toes into HD movies — not to mention kind of a logical step since Xbox Live was getting its movie section Zune-branded. BostonPocketPC writer Steven Hughes has uploaded pictures of an alleged pamphlet handed out at Best Buy’s Zune HD showings that, among other things, make reference to finding Zune Marketplace content including HD movies. Ban on HDTV Media Center recordings notwithstanding, things are looking up for Zune 4.0 software. And here we thought Apple was late to the party with its movie service.
